Michelle Boulé
Dance Artist
Michelle Boulé is a Brooklyn-based, “Bessie” Award-winning dance artist, teacher and BodyTalk Practitioner. Her work explores the physical expression of consciousness, as manifest through the body in performance and life. Her choreography has been commissioned by ISSUE Project Room, Danspace Project, and The Chocolate Factory, and has been presented recently by River to River, American Realness, “Come Together: Surviving Sandy,” Mount Tremper Arts Festival, and The Kitchen, and through tours to Latvia, Dublin, Chicago, and Philadelphia. Her collaborative duo with cellist Okkyung Lee has been presented by The Met Breuer, send+receive festival (Canada), The Stone, ISSUE, JACK, and MoMA Junior Associates. Choreographic commissions: Zenon Dance Company, The New School, Latvian Academy of Culture, Trevor Day School, and Universities of Oregon and Illinois. Awards: NYFA Choreography Fellowship, Cloud Prize, Boekelheide Creativity Award, Jerome Foundation Travel & Study Grant, Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant, DanceWEB. Residencies: Yaddo, The MacDowell Colony, Bemis Center Art, LMCC Extended Life Dance Development, collective address, Movement Research, BAX Space Grant, DanceHouse (Ireland), and SKITE (France). Michelle is most noted for her performance work with Miguel Gutierrez, Deborah Hay, and John Jasperse. She has been a guest teacher at dance institutions throughout North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.
